Khushi shares recipes of her favourite Janmashtami sweets

Janmashtami is about fun and celebration; it's also about gorging on delicious sweets. Khushi loves making and eating sweets and on this special day, she shares recipes of some of her favourite traditional Janmashtami sweets.

Some of the traditional dishes prepared especially on Janmashtami are Panjeeri, Shrikhand, Singhare ki Poori, Kheer, Gopalkala etc. Recipes for some of  these dishes are shared by Khushi below:

Shrikhand

Ingredients:
Curd - 1 kg.
Powdered sugar - 1 Cup 
Warm milk - 1 Spoon 
Cardamom powder - 2 Spoons
Chopped dry fruits
Few strands of saffron

Method:
Hung the curd in a muslin cloth for 2-3 hours. Add saffron strands in milk and keep it aside. In a bowl, add sugar, curd, saffron and milk mixture. Add cardamom powder and blend the mixture manually or with a blender. Garnish the Shrikhand with dry fruits like almonds and pistachios.

Singhare ki Poori

Ingredients:
Singhara Flour - 1 Cup 
Chopped Spinach - 1/4 Cup 
Boiled and mashed Potatoes - 1/4 Cup 
Oil - 1 Spoon
Ajwain Seeds - 2 Spoons
Chopped green chillies - 2 
Red Chilli Powder - 1 Spoon
Coriander Leaves - 1/4 Cup
Salt to taste
Oil to fry

Method:
Mix all the above mentioned ingredients thoroughly and knead the dough. Make small pooris. In a pan heat oil and fry pooris till they turn crisp and dark brown. Serve it hot with pickle and curd.

Charnamrat
Take 2-3 tbsps yogurt in a glass and fill it up to 3/4th level with milk. Also, add 1-2 tbsps of gangajal, a few diced pistachios and few drops of rose water. Add 2-3 basil leaves.

Aloo Halwa
Boil and mash 2-3 potatoes. In a pan heat 2 tbsp butter and fry the mashed potatoes. As soon as the potatoes turn golden red, add sugar. Garnish with chopped cashews and serve hot.

Panjeeri
In a pan heat 2-3 tbsps butter and 1/2 cup wheat flour. Roast them till it turns golden brown. In another pan roast raisins and chopped coconuts. Finally mix desired sugar and the dry fruits in the roasted wheat flour. The panjeeri is ready. 

Suji Kheer
In a pan heat 2-3 tbsps butter and add 3-4 tbsp suji. Roast it well. Add 3 cups of milk. Turn down the flame and let the mixture boil for 20-30 minutes. As soon as it reaches the desired consistency, add 3-4 tbsp sugar and chopped dry fruits. Serve hot.
